Something you should know about me: I love non-toy toys. One of my favorite non-toy toys is the flashlight. I like flashlights so much that I’ve probably exhausted at least eight in my life so far. Flashlights are good for finding lost toys underneath furniture, reading in the dark, and playing games.
My favorite flashlight game Rah-Rah came up with is called Dark Detectives. We wait until the sun begins to fade, leave the lights turned off, and the hunt is on. I know it’s suspicious, but usually there is something small missing in my room. Rah-Rah asks me, the Detective, questions about the missing object. Where did I see it last? What does it look like? And then we search high and low using the flashlight as our guide. Some cases call for us to interview different witnesses in my room. One time we had to interrogate The Dolly Llama about my missing guitar pick. He was the only one in the room at the time, so we grilled him about where it could be. We had to flash the light into his face to get him to talk. After much questioning, The Dolly Llama finally confessed that he in fact had hid my pick under the carpet. We immediately went to the scene of the crime and, using my flashlight I looked under the rug and there was my favorite guitar pick!
The other thing I like to use my flashlight for is bedtime reading. Before bed, Rah-Rah or Da-Da read three (four if I beg) books aloud to me. The lamp is off, the nightlight on, and we are snug as a bug under the covers sitting on the big green chair in my room. I shine the light onto the book so I can see the pictures and Rah-Rah or Da-Da can see the words. I love reading by flashlight!
